Shauna McClelland

Shauna McClelland is a specialist employment lawyer with significant experience in advising and representing clients in all aspects of employment law. She was admitted to the Bar in 1995 and commenced general practice with Joynt Andrews Barristers and Solicitors in 1995, assisting clients in relation to a broad range of legal issues including employment law, family law and commercial law.

She specialised exclusively in employment law in 1999 when she became the Employment Lawyer for the Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce. Since then she has assisted predominantly employer clients in all areas of employment law including dismissals, personal grievances, disciplinary investigations, collective and multi-employer collective bargaining, strikes and lockouts, independent investigations and report writing, redundancy and restructuring, human rights and privacy issues. She has appeared in the Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court, District Court and High Court.

Shauna also regularly represents clients in Mediation. Shauna has practiced law both in general practice, in a corporate environment, as a Director of Goldstein Ryder McClelland, a specialist employment law firm, and is now thriving in practice on her own account. She is an experienced employment law trainer and has regularly presented at seminars, workshops and conferences. Shauna is a member of the Employment Law Committee of the Canterbury Westland branch of the NZ Law Society.

Shauna acts for regional, national and international employers as well as medium to small sized, businesses and Not for Profits. Shauna has considerable experience acting for clients in many different sectors including but not limited to education, transport, retail, engineering and manufacturing, residential care, and local government sectors. She is a key extension of many clients’ human resources departments.

Shauna is focused on providing constructive practical solutions for her clients. She brings her attention to detail and objectivity to assist clients in addressing the issues confronting them. Shauna develops long term working relationships with managers and is able to provide support which is tailored to the manager's skills and experience.

Shauna works collaboratively with a group of other specialist lawyers practising on their own account, together with other related professionals who specialise in Human Resources and industrial psychology.

Shauna is married with two children. In her leisure time she enjoys time with her family at the family bach. She is also an enthusiastic landscape photographer.
